My Battle with Self Love
I have battled self love my entire life. In High School I wasn’t thin. Boys don’t really understand when your body weight fluctuates as you’re coming into being a woman. From that time forward I always thought that I had to fit this mold of what other women were. It wasn’t until I found spirituality, and yoga, that I have been confident and comfortable in my own skin.
It wasn’t a specific act of spirituality, or yoga for that matter, that changed my way of thinking. What opened my eyes was that I felt confident in who I was. I found a pathway that helped me understand who I am as an individual, I become enough. Everyone’s opinions that I valued just lost their spark and I was enough in my own skin, exactly the way I was.
So how do we get to that point? Honestly, I read a lot of book on self development. Literally, I read so many different books on Yoga Philosophy, Self Development, the act of self love, everything! I found my niche. I worked with crystals, chanting, developed a meditation practice, and spent time in the bath! Spending time in the bath has helped me understand who I am as a human being, I know it sounds silly but I swear by the power of a good bath! I pretty much found what made my heart light up, then I followed it.
Self Love Is Something That We Must Work At!
Yes, I found who I am and I feel confident most days. But, people don’t see what I see. People use my kindness for weakness. They break my heart because they don’t see the light that I see in myself. Do I get down? Yes. Do I get discouraged? Yes. I am thirty and single. My heart has been through a lot. Feeling like I haven’t been enough is an understatement. At the end of the day I have myself, and those memories turn into me thinking that those people missed out. Why? Because I am always enough. Maybe I wasn’t enough for them, but I am always enough for myself and for many others.
I have learned to accept flaws, in myself and in others. I work at trying to see the light in each situation by falling in love with the lesson. Love the process, every single minute of it. Love the new you each and every day. See the downfalls as a farther space to conquer. Learn to win the battle with failure by changing the way you look at it. That will lead to success, because vibrationally everything is a success.
So if you do one thing today, do one act of kindness for yourself. Do something that’ll help you build a connection with YOU. Some days, you are the only thing you have… and that is always enough!
