I hate to break it to ya, but Self Love should be a thing happening ALL THE TIME! We are always on a self love journey. We are constantly changing and need our own acceptance. Daily we make minor changes in our lives and those consistently put a damper on our internal self acceptance. So where do we start on the self love path? How do we learn to love ourselves in this life full of expectations and judgement?
Daily Rituals
What do your daily rituals look like currently? Are you even getting time for yourself? Fuel yourself! You will be a better support system for those around you when your cup is full and you are rejuvenated. Being strong and self-fulfilled supports a healthy life for you and those you love. Clear a space that you want to set aside for you. I have an alter set up with all of my crystals and things I love that I consider my ‘happy place’. Make it your own! Clear it with some sage, palo santo, or incense. Add some pictures or crystals that resonate with you to your spot. Dedicate this space for you and giving time to yourself. Use this space for Japa Meditation, Mantra, Pranayama, or just Mindfulness Meditation.
Experiment with Crystals
Crystals are an excellent way for you to tune in and start understanding yourself. There are multiple crystals that aid with this process. Meditate with them in your palms and see how quickly the Self Love light bulb turns on.
Amethyst: A calm crystal that helps with shutting down the brain and experiencing the true self. I love putting this on my forehead, or the anja chakra, to help me connect with the self. You can also put some around your bed, inside your pillowcases, or underneath the mattress.
Malachite: This is my absolute favorite and I have a huge personal testimony of this stone. I was drawn to Malachite the February prior to me making the change into starting my own business and stepping into the life I have now. Its the Transformation Stone, I should’ve known ;). This stone brings healing by surfacing the issues that are present. I saw a lot of emotional issues that were buried come to the surface, then you can heal and move past them. An amazing stone to understand yourself and your patterns.
Moonstone: This stone is associated with the Sacral Chakra. Its a very feminine stone and an amazing one to use when trying to understand the self. This stone is associated with the moon and its energetic properties goes with the moon cycles, I love using it in Full Moon Ceremonies or for myself around that time when the moon is at its peak. It is also a crystal that balances sexual energy and coming into your own.
Rose Quartz: The Love Crystal. This stone is my daily fave, I stick it in my bra (haha!). Put it as close to the Heart Center as possible, the closer you put crystals to a specific chakra the more you’ll get from it. Rose Quartz is beautiful, so I get this stone in bracelets and necklaces too. This crystal is love in a stone. It helps you in being content with you are. It helps find compassion for others.
Smoky Quartz: A protection crystal, but also helps rid negativity. I went through a phase when I lived in Las Vegas and worked on the strip, this was my go to! It helps keep you in your bubble and not absorb the energetic properties of the area you’re in. Bring this crystal with you on days when you know you need to keep your cool and not react to others. This is a grounding stone so its useful during meditation, especially when you’re experiencing anxiety and stress.
Yoga
Yoga happened to come into my life when I started understanding who I was as a human being. Yoga, specifically Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga, is a moving meditation that brings together Asana, Pranayama, and Drishti. You learn the poses and breathe through them for five breaths. When you start to understand the practice, magic happens. You learn yourself through the Asana Poses. You breathe through them, and it honestly makes life happen in a way that isn’t stressful. Ashtanga is for everyone so don’t shy away from the method because the advanced series are difficult. There is a starting place for every age group and level. Find a teacher and a starting point, then watch the magic happen!
Meditation
There are so many ways to Meditate. Everyone does it differently and there isn’t a right way to do it, just do what feels right for you. Here are a few things that have worked for me.
Chakra Meditation: Once you start to connect with the different Chakra Points in the body, you can tap into where your energetic imbalances are. You can start of with a guided meditation and then do it on your own once you know the areas of the body you’ll be focusing on. You can tune into that specific point, then envision a light in the color of the chakra wiping out any imperfections or blockages. Usually, I like to focus on each of the main seven chakras for roughly seven or eight minutes.
Guided Meditation: There are apps and Youtube Channels that provide free guided meditations. Find a channel you resonate with and take it from there. This is a good starting point if you haven’t done meditation before because it will help with the visualization piece while helping keep your mind from drifting away from the meditation practice.
Mindfulness Meditation: This act of meditation is exactly as it sounds, being mindful of the body and doing so in a practice of meditation. All you have to do is sit or lay down in a comfortable position, in silence or with some meditation music going. Try to keep the mind from wandering, when it does just draw your attention back to the self. Over time it’ll become easier and you’ll be able to sit for longer periods of time without it drifting.
Self Care Baths
Baths make me happy! I also get a good book, some candles, and spend some time in the tub to connect with myself. I try to do at least one a week, wish I could do more, but that keeps my self love game strong. Turn off your phone and tune into a book. Here are some things you can add into your bath to vamp up the Love!
Epsom Salt/Pink Himalayan Sea Salt
Rose Petals or Dried Rosemary
Coconut Oil
Essential Oils (I love Rose, Frankincense, and Lavender).
*Mix the Essential Oils you choose in with the Coconut oil or Salt prior to putting in the bath water so it absorbs better.
